Managing Your Web Redesign Project

I read a book a few years ago that affected the way I view any business endeavor I would undertake. The quote is from IBM founder Tom Watson and was contained in the book the E-Myth Revisitedby Micheal E. Gerber.

"....The third reason IBM has been so successful was that once I had a picture of how IBM would look when the dream was in place and how such a company would have to act, I then realized that, unless we began to act that way from the very beginning, we would never get there. In other words I realized that for IBM to become a great company it would have to act like a great company long before it ever became one."

So decided that the vision of my website would be its foundation and everything I did regarding it had to be executed in a way that respected the foundation. So when redesigning my site I used the book Web Redesign 2.0: Workflow that Worksby: Kelly Goto & Emily Cotler. My thinking was if I want my site to be seen a respected piece of real estate on the web I will use a method that sites that are respected use when they are going through the redesign process.

Although the book is suited to web design project managers, it provides worksheets that help you pinpoint all the important aspects of web design & development. If you visit the website you can have access to the worksheets provided that require to go deep to determine your sites audience, purpose, usability issues and content all critical aspects when either developing a site from scratch or designing and existing one. I highly recommend this book for web developers as well as entrepreneurs that design and maintain their own sites.
