Single Opt In Newsletters vs. Double Opt In Newsletters Which Is Better and Why.

One of my first decisions to make when creating my newsletter was whether or not I would make it single opt in or double opt in. If you are as green as I was when I had to make that decision I'll define those terms for you.

What are single opt-in newsletters?
Single Opt In Sign Up allows visitors to sign up in one easy step. You fill in your email address you click submit and a screen pops up thanking you for signing up and maybe offers you the chance to buy something or discount or even something for free. But your signed up.

What are double opt-in newsletters?
Double Opt In Signup allows visitors to signup and then tells them to check their email inbox for a message and click a link within the message to confirm it's actually them signing up.

Each method inherently has its pros and cons like single opt in lists will have more people because the process is instant and simple yet what will be the quality of a list that anyone can sign up for a little to easily this will expose you to being called a spammer just because someone thought it was funny to sign up their buddy or someone that didn't like for a bunch of random email newsletters. Double opt-in lists are smaller yet they will contain people who really wanted to sign up because they took the extra step to confirm it.

I chose and recommend to use double opt in. Why? Because double-opt in allows me to solidify my brand with my subscribers and I can tell them what to expect in the newsletter and how often to expect it. I think of it as an opportunity to start our relationship off on a good foot.
